The origins of Château de La Grille date back to the 15th century.

The buildings delimiting the main courtyard on two sides are evidence of its primitive state.

To the east, a building rests on a pavilion to the south, covered by a four-sided roof over a corbelled top storey.

The Cadre Noir de Saumur trains and develops senior equestrian professionals. True experts in one or more disciplines, the equerry's main mission is to pass on technical and theoretical knowledge in one or more disciplines. They are also responsible for training and maintaining the horses they present in the Reprise de Manège or the Reprise des Sauteurs, as well as in the national and international competitions in which they represent the school. They are also responsible for preparing the horses entrusted to them for student training.
